Germany has announced that it will begin monitoring its deployed Brigade in Lithuania through a satellite in space.
For this, ICEYE Space Solutions, a joint venture between Rheinmetall and ICEYE, has received a contract from the German Armed Forces to provide space-based intelligence data.
The contract, which runs from the end of 2025 to the end of 2030, is valued at approximately €1.7 billion, with the possibility of extension.

The military will receive the data through exclusive access to a constellation of satellites equipped with Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which provides high-quality imagery regardless of weather conditions or the time of day.
The primary goal of the project is to ensure the security of the 45th Armored Brigade (Panzerbrigade 45) of the German Armed Forces, which is deployed in Lithuania, and to protect NATO’s eastern flank.
The decision to deploy a German brigade in Lithuania was made under an official agreement between Germany and Lithuania, signed on December 19, 2023.
